Improving Workout Priorities For Moms
Jenny Hurley

There’s an old saying that the cobbler’s family members are the ones with the worst shoes.  The same applies to the caregiver: the caregiver typically cares for himself last as well.

Studies show that women have difficulty in maintaining a healthy weight because of the complexity of managing multiple responsibilities, time and emotions.  The Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research noted specifically that women face challenges with lack of childcare and accessing support, which is a common discussion among moms today.

So what is the key for women to be most successful in maintaining weight? Workout timing and accountability.

“We have found that when people exercise first thing in the morning, they are more consistent and feel a greater sense of accomplishment for prioritizing exercise in their day,” noted Jeff Morgan, president of motivFITJeff and his wife, Carrie, manage and operate Body Blast Challenges in the Conejo Valley.

Jenny Hurley ( featured in photo on the lright doing decline pushups), a motivFIT client, agrees wholeheartedly, and is an example of one who transitioned from evening to morning workouts with greater success.   Jenny is a sales manager and juggles full-time work with two young children, ages 5 and 2, and her husband.

“I am not a morning person,” Hurley exclaimed, “and would normally workout in the evening.   But after having kids, morning is the only time slot that I have.  It is so much easier to workout before work, while the kids are asleep and before my husband leaves as well.  I like to have evenings after work to spend time with my family.”

This transition, coupled with the accountability in the Body Blasts, has meant great success for Hurley with her motivation and results.  She had always been a size 8 and after only one year, is now enjoying sizes 2 – 4.  She noticed a difference in toning, shaping and energy levels.  She gradually developed better eating habits through food journals and nutrition coaching by motivFIT.

The Body Blast Challenge format was also a factor for Hurley.  “I had worked out at the gym and enjoyed swimming, but when I workout by myself, I always quit really easily.  With motivFIT, the workouts are never the same and the coaches constantly push you in your own personal fitness level.”

By coordinating a time that worked for her family and enlisting a class format that held her accountable for working out three times a week minimum, Hurley found the changes that many women long to have.
